Florida Man Faces DUI Arrest After Admitting to Alcohol and Drug Use

A 76-year-old man from Florida, Charles Ducking, was recently arrested for DUI even though he had a suspended license. During a traffic stop, Ducking allegedly admitted to drinking rum and using cocaine.

According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy pulled over Ducking after noticing his vehicle swerving on U.S. Highway 27 in Waverly. The deputy reported an odor of alcohol and observed Ducking’s slurred speech and watery eyes.

When asked for his driver’s license, Ducking told the deputy that it was suspended because of a previous DUI arrest. He also admitted to consuming alcohol.

“Well, I can’t show you my driver’s license cuz it’s suspended cuz DUI. And I have been drinking a little bit right now,” Ducking allegedly said.

Ducking showed the deputy a silver thermal cup containing a brown liquid, claimed to be rum.

A search of Ducking’s vehicle led deputies to discover a small orange container with cocaine. Ducking reportedly admitted to using cocaine minutes before the stop.

Field sobriety tests revealed Ducking showed signs of impairment. Breath tests indicated blood alcohol levels of .094 and .095, exceeding Florida’s legal limit of .08 for drivers.

Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd commented on the incident, emphasizing Ducking’s dangerous behavior while driving under the influence.

“While we appreciate Charles Ducking’s cooperation during the traffic stop, the fact of the matter is, he is lucky he hasn’t yet killed someone or himself while driving drunk and high on drugs,” Judd stated.

Ducking was taken to the Polk County Jail. He faces charges, including DUI—for the fourth or more time—as well as possession of cocaine, driving with a suspended license, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Ducking’s criminal history in Polk County includes nine arrests dating back to 2001, with several involving DUI charges.
