Late-night comedians Seth Meyers and John Oliver shared their views on Jimmy Kimmel’s role in their interactions with President Donald Trump during an appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” Oliver remarked on how Kimmel often becomes a topic during their comedy shows, particularly in terms of how Trump perceives them.
“People ask us what it’s like to be disliked by the current president, and we always say as long as you’re on the air, we’re fine,” Oliver commented, expressing that Kimmel serves as their “bulletproof vest.” Meyers added, “You draw all the ire.”
The trio speculated on why Kimmel attracts so much attention from the president. Meyers suggested, “Other than the fact that you don’t like him, we think he would want to hang out with you.” Meyers jokingly imitated Trump, indicating that Trump might talk about Kimmel’s famous friends and parties.
Kimmel noted that Trump never seemed upset with Jon Stewart and theorized that the president primarily watched major networks, missing shows like Oliver’s on HBO. Kimmel jested, “He definitely doesn’t have Comedy Central,” suggesting Trump might not even know where to find it.
Meyers reflected on the timing of Trump’s tweets, “I also think, just as late as he stays up… you’re on too late for him. I think you are past his bedtime.” Meyers expressed that it means a lot when Trump posts about his show while it’s airing.
Davis Ingle, a White House spokesperson, criticized the hosts in a statement provided to Fox News Digital. He described Seth Meyers as “unfunny” and commented on what he called “Trump Derangement Syndrome.” Ingle also referred to Oliver as a “pathetic moron.”
The White House reiterated past criticism of Kimmel, describing him as lacking talent with declining ratings.
