Jordan Battle proves to be a skilled football player but might lack finesse in poker. The Cincinnati Bengals safety publicly disclosed a crucial insight — targeting Malik Willis’ throwing flaw, just as the Bengals prepared to face the Miami Dolphins. Battle did not simply hint about Willis’ tell; he distinctly described it.
Battle explained Willis’ predictable move: “He has a little tap before every throw, and we could use that to break on the ball. He likes to tap the ball or detach his hand, providing a read for the break,” Battle shared with the media on Thursday.
The Bengals coaching team likely disapproved of Battle’s revelation; however, the Dolphins received it well. Miami head coach Jeff Hafley dismissed any concern over Battle’s remarks. With many quarterbacks tapping the ball before throwing as part of their rhythm, Hafley appreciated the shared insight. “Timing and rhythm involve tapping for many players. We welcome any opponent highlighting our tendencies,” Hafley stated on Friday.
Fan reactions on social media were harsh toward Battle’s disclosure. Remarks ranged from disbelief over his decision to share such sensitive information to sarcastically suggesting he reveal all defensive audibles. Jordan Battle, currently in his fourth season, entered the NFL with the Bengals as a third-round pick from Alabama in 2023. He has maintained consistency by not missing any games and added one interception this year, complementing the seven throughout his career.
“Why the f—k would you say this to the media,” one user wrote on X.
“Why would you reveal this,” another incredulous fan wrote on X.
“He should go ahead and tell the media all the Bengals’ defensive audibles too. Just make it easy,” claimed another X user.
Alongside interceptions, Battle has secured 25 tackles and defended two passes in the current season. Following a two-game losing streak after an initial 2-0 start, the Bengals aim to capitalize on Willis’ tell for a win against the winless Dolphins.
The Bengals-Dolphins clash is set for 1 p.m. ET on Sunday.
