San Francisco 49ers Wide Receiver Challenges Continue

2 hours ago 0

The San Francisco 49ers face another setback in their receiver lineup as Deebo Samuel will be sidelined for several weeks. Head coach Kyle Shanahan revealed on Monday that the 30-year-old is suffering from a hamstring strain sustained in their recent victory over the Seattle Seahawks, where the 49ers won 32-29.

This injury adds to the mounting challenges for the team, which has already seen several players in the receiver position encounter injuries. Christian Kirk, Demarcus Robinson, and De’Zhaun Stribling are currently on the injured list, while Ricky Pearsall is out for the season following PCL reconstruction surgery.

Samuel, who spent seven seasons with the 49ers before joining the Washington Commanders in 2025, returned to San Francisco on a one-year contract this offseason. His performance has been pivotal, contributing 206 receiving yards, 79 rushing yards, and three touchdowns over five games. Additionally, he has shown exceptional skill in kick returns, with 11 attempts covering 281 yards.

The injury occurred during Sunday’s game when Seahawks linebacker Drake Thomas tackled Samuel in the third quarter. Samuel was unable to continue and had to be carried off the field.

Despite the setbacks, the 49ers managed to secure a win in Week 5, with Mike Evans playing a crucial role by achieving 113 yards and a touchdown. However, with only four healthy wide receivers left, general manager John Lynch might need to consider strengthening the team’s roster, especially given that Jordan Watkins has only two catches this season.

Samuel’s absence also means he will miss the opportunity to face his former team, the Commanders, in an upcoming ‘Monday Night Football’ game. Furthermore, he might be unavailable for the Week 7 game against the Atlanta Falcons before the team’s bye week.
