Thousands to Participate in ‘No Kings’ Rallies Across Southern California

2 hours ago 0

On Saturday afternoon, thousands are expected to attend ‘No Kings’ rallies across Los Angeles County and Southern California to promote voter engagement ahead of the Nov. 3 election.

Protests in South Bay

In the South Bay, an early protest featured around 50 participants marching south along the boardwalk between Manhattan Beach and Hermosa Beach. Despite the ongoing protest, the usual beach activities continued undisturbed. These included a beach volleyball tournament with teams in Halloween attire, a dog wearing booties to protect its paws from the hot pavement, and a man loudly discussing religious themes.

The demonstration was small and sociable, allowing participants to fit into a group photo at the Hermosa Pier plaza. When prompted, the crowd enthusiastically shouted, “VOTE!”

Historical Context of the Movement

This rally marks the fourth in a series over the past year, each with a specific focus. Past rallies addressed issues like President Trump, Immigration and Customs Enforcement actions, the Iran war, high gas prices, and increasing food costs.

The No Kings coalition emphasizes this as a crucial phase in reclaiming collective power following numerous mass mobilizations. Their website highlights the day’s goals: promoting nonpartisan voter participation, fostering community, and ensuring all voters are informed and ready to vote.

Multiple Rallies Planned

Various rallies and marches will take place throughout Los Angeles and Orange counties, beginning from 10 a.m. In downtown Los Angeles, participants will congregate at Gloria Molina Grand Park at 1 p.m. to march until 5:30 p.m.

The Los Angeles Police Department issued warnings that these “non-permitted” events might affect traffic. They advised caution on streets such as Spring, Los Angeles, Aliso, Commercial, 1st, Temple, and Alameda.
