Rise in Pokemon Card Thefts in California

1 hour ago 0

In recent months, there has been an increase in thefts involving Pokemon cards across California. Police in San Francisco have arrested juveniles linked to a pepper spray robbery where high-tech tools were used. In Brentwood, masked thieves stole cards worth thousands in less than a minute, prompting the store owner to enhance security measures.

A FedEx truck parked outside Professional Sports Authenticators (PSA) in Santa Ana was also targeted. Nearly $1 million in trading cards, including sports and Pokemon cards, were stolen. These cards, graded by PSA, were in transit back to their owners. Santa Ana police estimate the cards’ value at around $963,000.

The thieves breached the truck by breaking the lock, seizing the cards while the driver was not present. Among those affected is card collector and YouTuber SKY-B, who lost 104 cards. Many of these were rare or unique, labeled as 1-of-1s. “These cards hold immense personal and financial value,” the YouTuber expressed.

Collectors, the company involved, stated, “We are cooperating with law enforcement and the carrier in this ongoing investigation.” They announced steps taken to deactivate certificates for stolen items and inform marketplace partners.

The company’s customer service team has reached out to impacted customers to arrange compensation reflecting current market values. Collectors emphasized their commitment to supporting customers, acknowledging the personal significance of these cards. They pledged continued collaboration with law enforcement to ensure accountability.

As of now, no arrests have been made, and the stolen cards have not been found.
