The Michigan Senate race has escalated into a heated conflict, drawing national attention. Democratic Representative Haley Stevens’ fiancé publicly announced he will not support the Democratic nominee, Abdul El-Sayed. He predicts that the state will also reject El-Sayed.
This decision follows similar actions from prominent Jewish Democrats in Michigan. They oppose El-Sayed due to his comments on Israel and the Gaza conflict. Jason Turkish, engaged to Stevens, declared El-Sayed’s failure to unite the party post-primary.
When he says ‘genocide’ repeatedly and avoids condemning ads blaming Jews for banana prices, it threatens my community’s safety,Turkish stated.
El-Sayed distanced himself from inflammatory ads linking food costs to U.S. involvement in Gaza, but critics sought stronger denouncements.
Haley Stevens noted on CNN her desire for El-Sayed to formally disavow the ad, which his campaign did not produce. Although divided, Stevens plans to support El-Sayed in the election, reflecting household political divides.
