Retired four-star General Jack Keane has suggested that the United States consider military action against Iran, highlighting the regime’s vulnerability. Keane argues that Iran continues to mislead the international community about its nuclear ambitions, despite efforts by President Donald Trump to pursue a diplomatic solution.
“I think we’re coming down to the reality that the military option is, indeed, the best option here,” Keane stated during an appearance on “Fox & Friends Weekend.” He emphasized that Trump has a unique opportunity to potentially shift the balance of power in the Middle East, with the possibility of achieving long-term stability and leaving a significant mark on history.
The ongoing flight operations of fighter jets from the USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group in the Arabian Sea have been closely monitored, courtesy of U.S. CENTCOM. Trump, recognized for his strategy of using diplomatic pressure, is yet urged by Keane to consider military intervention to bring about regime change in Iran. According to Keane, any deal reached with Iran would likely involve a push for sanction relief, which, although possibly advantageous to the U.S., might extend the current Iranian leadership’s hold on power. He pointed out that economically and politically, Iran’s regime is at its most precarious state.
“Iran’s destabilizing actions in the Middle East are concerning,” Keane remarked, citing the use of proxies to threaten Israel and the oppression of its own citizens.
The country maintains that it is pursuing civil nuclear power, yet Keane dismissed these claims, indicating, “They have one nuclear plant which contributes less than 1% to their energy grid. It’s all a bunch of nonsense. They’ve been lying for years about this.”
Amid these tensions, U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff, alongside Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner and Admiral Brad Cooper, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) commander, visited the USS Abraham Lincoln. The visit coincided with nuclear discussions between the U.S. and Iran in Oman, attended by Witkoff and Kushner.
Trump described discussions as “very good,” suggesting that Iran is eager to reach an agreement but underscoring the necessity that any resolution must prohibit Iran from developing nuclear weapons.
“Iran looks like it wants to make a deal very badly,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One. “We have to see what that deal is.”
