Dax Shepard recently opened up about a time he flirted with an A-list actress, Kate Hudson, while knowing she was married. This revelation came during an episode of his “Armchair Expert” podcast, where the 51-year-old actor discussed the dynamics of his past relationships with guests Erin and Sara Foster.
Initial Connection
The conversation explored how Shepard and Hudson began their relationship. Shepard’s co-host, Monica Padman, mentioned that Shepard was “obsessed” with Hudson long before they dated. Shepard recounted meeting Hudson through her brother Oliver, recalling, “I was at his house one night playing poker and she came and played. She was still with Chris [Robinson]. I just thought she was incredibly beautiful.”
“I gave her everything I had in the reserve tank,” Shepard admitted, recognizing she was married at the time.
He left that evening thinking, “That’s as good of a job as one can do. She’s married. Who cares?” remarking on his satisfaction with his attempt to make an impression.
Reconnecting and Dating
After Hudson separated from Chris Robinson, Shepard saw her again at a dinner hosted by their mutual friend, Steve Brill. He took this opportunity to rekindle their connection. “Now she’s single and I’m like, ‘Let’s see if we can bring back this magic,’” he recalled.
The pair then dated continuously for several months in 2007. Despite their breakup, they maintained a friendly relationship. During a 2019 appearance on the podcast, Hudson and Shepard shared that they playfully held hands to provoke paparazzi, which ultimately led to a genuine connection.
“I was acting mad at the paparazzi that they were invading our privacy,” Shepard said. Hudson added, “Then I wanted to have sex with him. It was the perfect move.”
Moving On
Following their split, Shepard started dating actress Kristen Bell. They married in 2013 and have two daughters, Lincoln, 13, and Delta, 11. Meanwhile, Hudson was engaged to Muse frontman Matthew Bellamy, welcoming a son, Bingham, before their split in 2014. Hudson now shares a daughter, Rani, with her current fiancé, Danny Fujikawa.
