Wisconsin’s Democratic socialist gubernatorial candidate Francesca Hong faced questions about the lack of endorsement from high-profile progressives. U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, known by her initials AOC, and U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders did not publicly support Hong ahead of Tuesday’s primary.
When asked about this, Hong expressed respect for both lawmakers. She noted their efforts to achieve Democratic victories in Congress and the Senate during the midterms. Hong mentioned her intention to discuss these matters with them in the future.
Hong addressed whether this lack of endorsement might imply skepticism about her chances of winning. She clarified that gubernatorial races differ from federal elections in nature.

During a recent ABC’s “This Week” interview, Jonathan Karl questioned Ocasio-Cortez on her endorsement plans concerning Hong’s campaign. Ocasio-Cortez stated she had not endorsed in the race, emphasizing her focus on Congressional elections, aiming for House and Senate victories.
Ocasio-Cortez also commented on past controversial statements made by Hong. She believed Hong presented current stances to her voters, moving beyond previous positions.
When Hong was asked about comments Ocasio-Cortez made regarding ‘wokeness,’ she responded that many are becoming aware of an economy biased against working-class individuals. Hong emphasized her commitment to policies such as taxing the wealthy, advocating for higher wages, instituting a moratorium on data centers, universal childcare, and improving funding for public schools.
In addition to Hong, the Wisconsin Democratic gubernatorial primary includes Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley, state Sen. Kelda Roys, and former Wisconsin Department of Administration Secretary Joel Brennan.
