In a crucial moment during a high-stakes game, Aleko Kolliniatis delivered an unforgettable performance that left his teammates in awe. The junior forward from Lockport amazed everyone with a decisive overtime goal that saved his team’s season.
Kolliniatis managed to strike from 20 yards, hitting the inside of the far post at an improbable angle. This marked his second goal of the match, which ensured a 2-1 overtime victory over Stagg at the Class 3A Lincoln-Way East Sectional championship in Frankfort.
Top-seeded Lockport, with a record of 14-5-2, celebrated their third sectional title in six years. Gavin Peery assisted in the match, while Ben Szudy contributed four crucial saves. Lockport will face the undefeated host Lions (21-0-1) at the Lyons Supersectional on Monday.
Kolliniatis believes the program is at its peak. “The hard work and conditioning from summer camp has propelled us here,” he commented, expressing confidence in future improvements.
For Stagg, Jakub Krol scored with assistance from David Gorz. Christian Komosinski made five saves, yet six minutes into overtime, Kolliniatis showcased his skill. He bypassed a defender and launched a left-footed shot that found the net.
“I aimed for the frame and surpassed my expectations,” Kolliniatis said. “Coach Beal appreciated his daring attempt, commending the forward’s confidence and skill level.
Kolliniatis, who has scored 18 goals, leads his team effortlessly. “My teammates view me as a leader,” he expressed. Kolliniatis relishes the role and supports his team on and off the field.
Peery acknowledges Kolliniatis for his dedication in practice and his role in bolstering team spirit. Lockport found themselves trailing 1-0 before Kolliniatis completed a well-coordinated play involving Justas Ulinskas and Peery.
Now three wins away from matching his father’s state title achievement in 1993, Kolliniatis remains driven. “One more game to state, and we’ll keep pushing,” he said.
Coach Beal continues to rely on Kolliniatis. “Aleko’s contributions in key moments have consistently proven his all-state caliber,” the coach states.
