Rapper Macklemore has highlighted challenges faced in bringing his Free Palestine benefit tour to the U.S. He reported that nine major American venues have declined to host his shows once informed of the tour’s purpose. Initially, these venues provided available dates, but retracted once realizing the benefit was for Palestinian aid groups.
This series of events follows Macklemore’s removal from Ed Sheeran’s tour in September after making pro-Palestinian remarks during his performance. Subsequently, Macklemore launched the Free Palestine Tour, with sold-out concerts in Dublin’s 3Arena, Paris’s Accor Arena, and London’s Ovo Arena Wembley.
The rapper expressed a strong desire to extend the tour to the American audience but has faced rejections from venues including Madison Square Garden, Prudential Center, Barclays Center, and several others across major cities like Los Angeles and Seattle. Venue operators have not responded to requests for comments about these decisions. However, MSG Entertainment mentioned limited availability, categorizing Macklemore as “not an arena level act.”
