Trevor Bauer Faces Another Setback on Route to MLB Return

1 month ago 0

Trevor Bauer’s journey back to Major League Baseball encountered another major obstacle on Wednesday. The former Cy Young Award winner, who remains sidelined by MLB, was involved in a significant car accident in Arizona. Bauer, 35, experienced a collision while driving his black McLaren in a Phoenix-area street.

Bauer hasn’t competed in the MLB since his 2021 season with the Los Angeles Dodgers. His recent performances, such as striking out 10 players in a game for the Long Island Ducks against the Lexington Legends, highlight his ongoing efforts to maintain his pitching career.

According to TMZ, Bauer was driving at the 45 mph speed limit at the time of the incident and was not responsible for the crash. Emergency responders at the scene confirmed that no one needed hospitalization, and Bauer left the scene without any injuries.

This incident isn’t the first involving Bauer and a McLaren. In 2019, an uncontrolled semi-truck tire damaged his parked 2016 McLaren 650S, crushing it in a dealership lot.

Once celebrated for his achievements, including a Cy Young Award and a lucrative three-year contract with the Dodgers worth $102 million, Bauer’s career was disrupted in 2021 due to sexual assault allegations from Lindsey Hill. Although no criminal charges were filed, and Bauer has always claimed innocence, MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred imposed a 324-game suspension. An arbitrator later reduced this to 194 games.

Bauer remains unwelcome by the MLB’s 30 teams despite having no criminal convictions. He has been pitching away from the MLB spotlight and currently plays for the Long Island Ducks in the Atlantic League, boasting a 4-1 record with a 2.43 ERA.

Ironically, Bauer was present in Arizona to address issues with back spasms.

He has spent considerable time and effort campaigning for a second chance in the MLB, even offering to play for the minimum salary. Despite the controversies that have affected his career, Bauer remains steadfast in pursuing his dream of returning to the major leagues.
