Trump frequently boasts about a costly new White House ballroom and dismisses rising gas prices, calling them “peanuts” compared to his efforts in Iran.

Despite ongoing negotiations to end a self-initiated conflict in Iran, Trump emphasizes foreign achievements over domestic issues, labeling affordability concerns as a Democratic “hoax.” Last week, he surprised many by announcing a $1.8 billion fund for those claiming victimization by “weaponization and lawfare,” including participants in the January 6 Capitol riots.

Senate Republicans, many present during that day, returned home frustrated by Trump’s focus on personal priorities over the party’s success in the upcoming elections. They left Washington without securing funding for Trump’s immigration measures or the $1 billion he requested for his ballroom.

Interviews with officials reveal that Republicans understand the party’s fortunes are tied to Trump, yet they feel powerless to influence his actions. Republican pollster Whit Ayres stated, “The president was elected to boost the economy, lower inflation, curb illegal immigration, and shift away from woke culture. If maintaining congressional control were his top priority, his actions would differ.”
