Chicago White Sox’s Munetaka Murakami Leaves Game Due to Injury

Chicago White Sox player Munetaka Murakami left Friday’s game against the Detroit Tigers during the third inning due to tightness in his right hamstring. The White Sox medical staff is conducting a thorough evaluation to assess the extent of the injury.

Murakami’s injury occurred while he was running to first base on a fielder’s choice during the bottom of the third inning at Rate Field. With one out and a runner on first, Murakami hit a ground ball to second baseman Zach McKinstry. The Tigers managed a force out at second base. However, Murakami successfully reached first base, avoiding a double play. Following this play, the training staff examined him on the field, leading to his subsequent removal from the game.

Notably, Murakami entered the game tied with Yordan Alvarez of the Houston Astros for the American League lead with 20 home runs. He was also leading alongside Jonathan Aranda of the Tampa Bay Rays in RBIs, having accumulated 41. Murakami, a rookie who signed with the White Sox in the offseason after eight seasons with the Tokyo Yakult Swallows, is the first in major-league history to achieve 20 home runs before June.
