Maryland Lt. Gov. Aruna Miller Denies Corruption Allegations Amid Mail-In Ballot Error

4 weeks ago 0

Maryland Lt. Gov. Aruna Miller responded to former President Donald Trump’s call for a Justice Department investigation into a mail-in ballot error in the state. Trump accused Democratic Governor Wes Moore of corrupt practices after errors were found in mail-in ballots sent to voters for the upcoming primary elections. Election officials acknowledged a mistake from the state’s ballot vendor, Taylor Print & Visual Impressions, Inc., leading Trump to allege interference by Gov. Moore.

Trump’s comments on social media included allegations that Gov. Wes Moore was complicit in ensuring a Democratic victory. “This was done by the Corrupt Governor of the State, Wes Moore,” Trump posted on Truth Social, claiming the governor allowed the error to occur. Lt. Gov. Miller countered these claims by emphasizing the independence of the Maryland State Board of Elections from the governor’s administration.

“The administration, they’re a separate body from us, the board of elections,” Miller explained in her statement to Fox News Digital. She noted that errors such as incorrect mailings are not uncommon in election processes. In Maryland, past problems have included a 2018 voter-roll software glitch.

Ballots get mailed the wrong way. It happens almost in every election.

The Maryland State Board of Elections has reported that new ballots will be sent to all voters affected by the May 14 error. Officials have stated that there is no risk of duplicate voting due to their safeguards. Despite this, Trump questioned the integrity of the process, particularly how the issue would prevent duplicate votes.

“In Maryland, they sent out 500,000 Illegal Mail In Ballots, and they got caught!” Trump declared on Truth Social, expressing concerns about transparency surrounding the initial batch of ballots. He also alleged that many ballots went to Democrats, making it difficult for Republicans to compete.

Miller refuted claims of intentional wrongdoing, attributing the mistake to vendor error rather than malice. The state’s Administrator of Elections, Jared DeMarinis, further clarified that no illegal ballots were issued.

Trump has approached Attorney General Todd Blanche and the Justice Department to explore the issue, but there has been no public confirmation of an investigation’s commencement. “We’ll see what the investigation shows,” Miller remarked, noting that she has not received any details from the DOJ.

This ongoing situation has prompted additional calls for a federal review of Maryland’s voter rolls. The scrutiny highlights ongoing concerns over election processes and the integrity of mail-in voting systems.
