President Donald Trump has appointed Adam Telle as the acting Army secretary following the resignation of Dan Driscoll. Telle, previously assistant secretary of the Army for civil works, is recognized as a civilian leader within the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Telle brings substantial political experience to the position. He dedicated over 20 years to working with Republican senators and held the role of chief liaison to the Senate during Trump’s first term. In his endorsement, Trump described Telle as a ‘Great Patriot,’ receiving praise across various platforms.
Dan Driscoll’s resignation comes after prolonged tensions with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. Driscoll, an Army veteran and ally of Vice President JD Vance, devised plans for transforming the Army’s operations. However, concerns emerged regarding Hegseth’s removal of some generals responsible for executing these plans.
The leadership transition follows retirements from Army Chief of Staff Gen. Randy George and U.S. Army Europe and Africa commander Gen. Chris Donahue, both supportive of modernization initiatives such as the ‘Army Transformation Initiative’ and enhanced drone integration.
Telle’s leadership begins during ongoing U.S. conflict with Iran, reflecting challenges in weapon shortages including in systems like Patriot and THAAD. The departure of Driscoll drew bipartisan concern over the emerging leadership void within military ranks.
