Alabama Holds Special Primaries in Key Congressional Districts

32 minutes ago 0

The U.S. Capitol building displayed the American flag on September 22, 2025, in Washington. On Tuesday, voters in several Alabama congressional districts are participating in primary elections. These primaries were rescheduled.

Republican Governor Kay Ivey initiated special primaries in the 1st, 2nd, 6th, and 7th Congressional Districts. This decision followed a significant Supreme Court ruling that diluted a portion of the Voting Rights Act. The ruling allowed Alabama to implement a House map previously blocked, which tends to benefit the GOP.

Earlier, voters in the remaining three House districts in Alabama voted in May. Polling stations are set to close at 7 p.m. EDT. For live election results, check with Decision Desk HQ.
