An American tourist lost his life after being struck by lightning while climbing Mount Etna, an active volcano in Italy. The incident took place amid ongoing volcanic eruptions.

The 30-year-old man ventured into a restricted area of Mount Etna on Sunday. On his ascent, he intended to get closer to the summit. Local reports from La Sicilia indicate that a sudden thunderstorm ensued, resulting in the fatal lightning strike.
Emergency Response
Authorities were informed of the incident shortly before 8 p.m. local time. Firefighters promptly arrived at the scene via helicopter. Despite their quick response, the hiker succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead upon arrival at Cannizzaro Hospital in Catania.
