Army Secretary Dan Driscoll Resigns Amid Tensions

1 hour ago 0

Army Secretary Dan Driscoll is anticipated to resign soon after the White House accepted his resignation, according to sources familiar with the situation and a White House representative.

Driscoll, recognized positively by lawmakers from both parties, has been a close associate of Vice President JD Vance during his tenure. He has served as the Army Secretary since February 2025.

This decision comes amid rumors of Driscoll’s departure from the administration. NBC News indicated last week that Driscoll informed close associates of his intention to leave by Labor Day. He reportedly visited the White House last week to discuss his future, but details of the meeting remain unclear.

Driscoll is one among several high-profile Defense Department officials to resign. Earlier, Navy Secretary John Phelan and Army Chief of Staff Gen. Randy George left their positions in the spring.

White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly complimented Driscoll, stating, Secretary Driscoll has played an essential role in advancing President Trump’s agenda ‘Make America Strong Again’ at the Army, demonstrating exceptional leadership during historic military operations, emphasizing readiness and lethality, and mediating negotiations between Russia and Ukraine.

Driscoll’s disagreements with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth have been noted, particularly regarding Army transformation and readiness. Sources revealed that Driscoll voiced concerns over decisions made by Hegseth, including the dismissal of generals pivotal to Army initiatives.

Driscoll also halted the promotions of numerous senior Army officers. The Pentagon has redirected any inquiries on Driscoll’s resignation to the Army, which has yet to comment.

This situation continues to unfold. Further updates will provide additional insights.
