Tim Curry: Remembering His Legacy

Tim Curry, the renowned actor famed for roles in iconic films such as The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Clue, and It, passed away at the age of 80. His cause of death was identified as coronary artery disease, according to documents from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. Curry’s history with stroke and kidney cancer were also noted as contributing factors.

Although Curry faced numerous health challenges, he did not undergo surgery for any of these conditions. His passing was confirmed by Jimmy Franco, the senior director of publicity at Grand Central Publishing, who expressed sorrow but did not provide further statements.

The LAPD reported that they conducted a death investigation at Curry’s home, confirming no foul play was suspected.

Tim Curry rose to pop-culture prominence as Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show. This role, which was originally part of a 1973 London stage production, led to Broadway appearances and international fame with the film’s release. The movie gained a cult following, well-known for audience participation and songs such as ‘The Time Warp.’

Curry’s versatility as an actor was evident in roles such as Pennywise in the It miniseries, Wadsworth in Clue, and the character in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. He also played Cardinal Richelieu in The Three Musketeers.

Throughout his career across theater, film, and television, he garnered three Tony Award nominations for performances in My Favorite Year, Amadeus, and Spamalot. He also achieved accolades in television with a Daytime Emmy Award and a Primetime Emmy nomination.

Curry experienced a severe stroke in 2012, which resulted in his use of a wheelchair. Nevertheless, he continued to work in voice acting, later returning to live-action film with Stream in 2024.
