14 minutes ago 0

A security officer from a top-tier Boston school faces serious charges after police discovered a woman from Ireland unclothed and distressed near the Massachusetts State Police barracks on Martha’s Vineyard. The accused, Edward Brown, 27, denied charges related to the alleged incident said to have occurred on August 15. Prosecutors allege the event took place within the barracks upon meeting the victim at The Ritz, a local bar in Oak Bluffs.

Incident Details

Police responded to two emergency calls around 1 a.m. and found a woman in distress. She allegedly encountered a man at the bar but couldn’t remember subsequent events. Assistant District Attorney Courtney Scalice reported in court that surveillance and witness accounts suggest the woman, approached by a man in a white hat, later woke up naked. She claimed she escaped after requesting water, fleeing the building.

Responding officers noted visible bruises and redness on the woman. Brown reportedly stayed at the barracks as a friend’s guest. Witnesses, including a bouncer, and physical evidence like Uber records linked Brown to the victim.

Legal Proceedings

Brown faces a not guilty plea. Authorities arrested him in Boston where he worked in school security, discovering suspected drugs during the arrest. Boston Police confirmed prior harassment complaints against him by past partners. The ongoing investigation includes examinations of applicable policies and visitor procedures within the police department.

Massachusetts State Police confirmed no involvement in the Oak Bluffs Police investigation. They have stopped allowing guests at police accommodations on Martha’s Vineyard following this case. Released on $10,000 bail, Brown must avoid contact with the alleged victim and awaits a December court hearing. His defense emphasized the belief in a fair judicial process.
