New Features and Design Updates for U.S. Passports

53 minutes ago 0

If you’ve been planning to apply for a passport, consider waiting for some changes, unless you need it urgently. Recently, Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced a new initiative from President Trump. This includes an online application system for passports through an artificial intelligence website.

During the announcement event, Rubio introduced a redesigned passport for U.S. citizens. He described it as a symbol of the strong connection between the nation and its citizens, extending beyond borders. A prominent feature of the new passport design is the eagle, which will be present not only on the cover but throughout the pages of the passport book.

The launch event took place during the introduction of America.gov in Washington, DC on September 29, 2026. This website aims to streamline access to federal information and resources scattered across various agencies.

The new passport pages will display iconic American imagery spanning 250 years of history. This includes the Battle of Lexington, the expansion westward, the Wright brothers’ flight, Marines at Iwo Jima, and the Artemis mission splashdown. The cover will have some changes as well. The seal remains, but will be larger, and “United States of America” will move to the top.

During the event, Rubio remarked on the unique design, suggesting it could entertain travelers worldwide. He quipped that it could be as engaging as a handheld game for children. The online application feature is set to launch next year, while the new passport design will debut in 2028.

Earlier in the year, the State Department released a special limited-edition “Patriot Passport” showcasing President Trump’s image. Initially available only in Washington, DC, its distribution expanded to 24 offices nationwide in July.
