Caitlin Clark’s Impactful Debut at the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup

Caitlin Clark’s much-anticipated senior international debut with Team USA at the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup began with a bit of a wait. In the opening game against China, she was not among the starters selected by coach Kara Lawson. These achievements neared unprecedented heights in the league, achieving five August games with at least 20 points and 10 assists, a feat unmatched over the past five seasons.

In August, Clark averaged 24.4 points per game, marking the highest monthly scoring by a point guard in WNBA history. Despite her achievements, Lawson opted to start the tournament with more experienced players, with the possibility that Clark’s performance may secure her a starting position in future matches.
