Case Against Former Olympian Dropped Amid New Findings

WASHINGTON — The Justice Department has dismissed its case against David ‘Davey’ Hearn, a former Olympic canoeist, previously charged in connection with damage to the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. The decision follows revelations that undermine past allegations against Hearn.

A representative from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, led by Jeanine Pirro, disclosed that additional information prompted the dismissal. The revelation came when the Interior Department provided further documents indicating that the extensive damage was due to a contractor’s flawed installation rather than vandalism.

The DOJ explained that upon reviewing this new evidence, attributing the damage to vandalism became increasingly challenging. Establishing guilt beyond a reasonable doubt proved impossible under these circumstances.

A spokesperson for Pirro remarked that the recent filing effectively communicated its intentions. In addition, Pirro’s office has moved to dismiss at least one of three other misdemeanor cases linked to the Reflecting Pool incident.

“The Government’s case against Davey Hearn should never have been brought,” Hearn’s attorney, Steven Levin, stated. “Its dismissal today does not erase the abuse of government power in arresting and charging a patriotic American. The government’s approach was ready, shoot, aim. The federal government owes Mr. Hearn an apology.”

Hearn had previously contended that the condition of the pool was unchanged after his interaction, asserting his innocence. He faced charges of property destruction and was accused of causing damage exceeding $1,000.
