Cedric Alexander’s first defense of the Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) X Division Championship occurred during Slammiversary. He faced a challenging task in an Ultimate X match. This match marked the 55th Ultimate X contest in TNA history. Alexander competed against Amazing Red, Frankie Kazarian, Fabian Aichner, Leon Slater, KC Navarro, and Mr. Elegance. Amazing Red made his first appearance in a TNA ring in about 15 years.
Victory required a competitor to scale one of the pillars, navigate across cables high above the ring, and secure the belt. Alexander, Kazarian, Red, and Aichner all attempted to reach the belt simultaneously. Alexander slipped, bringing Aichner down with him. Both Red and Kazarian fell to the mat, allowing them to demonstrate their remaining skills. Mr. Elegance tried to seize the opportunity with everyone else out of the ring, but Navarro thwarted his attempts.
Red faced Navarro in the ring, executing a Code Red maneuver on him and then on Kazarian. He aimed for the championship but was intercepted by Slater. Slater gained momentum as he realized his path to the title was obstructed. Performing a double blockbuster move, he eliminated Aichner, Elegance, Kazarian, and Navarro. He then raced against Red to reach the title in the middle of the cable line. As Slater unhooked the belt, he and Red dangled from the cables.
Alexander returned to the ring and snatched the belt from Slater’s grasp. Slater and Red never touched the mat, which led to Alexander being declared the winner. Alexander initially secured the X Division Championship by defeating Slater, thereby stopping his historic run. Alexander maintains possession of the belt for now.
