A Cessna 177 airplane crashed on the Capitol Expressway in San Jose, California, on Saturday, as shown in dash camera footage. The footage reveals the single-engine plane colliding with an overpass on the expressway.
The San Jose Fire Department (SJFD) reported that three people, including a child, were injured in the crash. Fortunately, their injuries were not life-threatening.
“SJFD is on scene of a plane crash in the area of Capitol Expressway and Excalibur Dr.,” announced SJFD in a post, noting that the prop plane involved no vehicles. “Two adults and one child were transported with non-life-threatening injuries out of an abundance of caution. Please avoid the area.”
The crash led to a minor fuel spill, which was quickly contained and absorbed.
Investigators from SJFD, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are investigating the incident. No official cause has been released, but drugs and alcohol were reportedly not involved.
The San Jose Police Department’s spokesperson confirmed these details. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine what led to the crash.
