Aaron Civale’s clean 10th inning on Thursday resulted in a 4-2 victory against the St. Louis Cardinals. This marked Civale’s first save of the year, making him the 13th Cubs pitcher to achieve a save.

Saves became officially tracked only in 1969, making this statistic noteworthy.

Trade Deadline Decisions

With the trade deadline looming at 5 p.m. Monday, the Cubs face critical decisions to enhance their roster. The Cubs hold a record of 62-47 and aim to catch the Milwaukee Brewers, who lead the National League Central by 5.5 games. Cubs President of Baseball Operations Jed Hoyer and the front office weigh the level of investment required to upgrade the lineup.

Hoyer’s focus is on balancing risk for the organization’s future and present. Many find these topics challenging, but Hoyer has to prioritize the future.

“It’s all risk,” manager Craig Counsell stated Thursday. “It’s risk for the organization in terms of the future and now.”
