1. Anthony Kay’s Struggles on the Mound

Starting pitcher Anthony Kay found the game challenging, struggling to gain control. Kay allowed five runs, four of which were earned, on seven hits. Despite his efforts, he only managed two strikeouts over 3 2/3 innings. “Pitching behind in the count is never good,” Kay admitted, describing his performance as far from ideal.

Despite early lead exchanges, the Royals leveraged a second-inning fielding error from Colson Montgomery to take a 3-2 lead. The Sox briefly regained the advantage with Kyle Teel’s two-run single, but the Royals responded by securing the win with back-to-back RBI doubles in subsequent innings.

In Friday’s opener, the Sox dominated with a 22-1 victory, featuring standout performances from Gonzalez, Vargas, and Tristan Peters, all tallying multiple RBIs. This scoring feat mirrored an achievement from 1955, where several Sox players also recorded significant RBIs in a single game.

Having finished the homestand with a 4-2 record, including series victories over both the Guardians and the Royals, the Sox aim to replicate their home success on the road. Manager Venable praised the team’s ability to secure tightly contested games, emphasizing their strong performance at home.

Vargas echoed the positive sentiment, attributing their success to the supportive home atmosphere and fan presence. The Sox now hold a home record of 28-14.
