8 minutes ago 0

Concussions affect millions of Americans annually. While they are often linked to head impacts in contact sports, these injuries occur across all age groups. In older adults, concussions frequently result from falls.

Statistics show that 13 percent of older adults have suffered a traumatic brain injury. Among these, over 80 percent are due to concussions. These brain injuries are associated with an 18 percent higher risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease.

The findings emphasize the importance of preventing falls in older adults to reduce the risk of concussions and subsequent health complications.
