A man in Connecticut is facing serious charges related to the death of his 12-year-old stepdaughter, found with a lethal amount of diphenhydramine in her system. The Enfield Police Department charged Anthony Federline, 39, in April with first-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor after the girl’s death.
Authorities are now seeking access to Federline’s Facebook and Snapchat accounts, as well as the family’s CVS Caremark and Amazon accounts, according to court documents referenced by WFLA. These efforts aim to gather more information regarding the circumstances surrounding the girl’s death.
Eve Rogers was discovered dead at her home on March 18. Her mother found her on the bedroom floor, partially unclothed with a blanket over her lower body. Blood and other substances were noted to be coming from her nose.
The medical examiner reported that toxicology tests revealed a fatal level of diphenhydramine in her system.
The toxicology report cited a diphenhydramine concentration of 23,000 ng/ml in her blood. For comparison, fatal levels for children start at 4,390 ng/ml and 14,720 ng/ml for adults. The medical examiner suggested Rogers ingested approximately 1.8 liters of liquid diphenhydramine.
Following the discovery, a sexual assault kit indicated Federline as a contributor to DNA swabs. However, no charges have been filed regarding her death. Federline has pleaded not guilty to the existing charges of first-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor.
Search warrants revealed that her mother admitted to purchasing medications and a ‘sexual pleasure device’ for her daughter through Amazon. Despite this, investigators found no traces of capsules, which would indicate ingestion through Sleep Aid medication.
Rogers’ mother mentioned finding inappropriate online conversations involving her daughter. However, police did not uncover these during their investigations. Federline informed detectives about using Facebook and Snapchat to communicate with his stepdaughter, denying any inappropriate content in these conversations.
Investigators continue to scrutinize Federline’s digital activities, focusing on the period before the girl’s tragic death. His next court appearance is scheduled for this month, where he will address the charges leveled against him.
