The aggression of Victor Wembanyama on the basketball court has come under scrutiny once again. The incident occurred during Game 3 of the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden, as the San Antonio Spurs faced off against the New York Knicks.
In the first half, an incident happened involving Jalen Brunson, the Knicks’ All-Star guard. While guarding Wembanyama near the free-throw line, Brunson was shoved to the ground by the 7-foot-4 center who placed his hand on Brunson’s head. Despite the obvious physical interaction, officials did not call a foul. The game continued with the Knicks maintaining possession.
Brunson confronted Wembanyama immediately after the shove. Observers noted that Wembanyama seemed to smile before Brunson returned his attention to the game. This event echoed a similar occurrence in Game 2, where Brunson’s backup, Jose Alvarado, was thrown aside by Wembanyama during a boxing-out attempt.
Despite similar aggression, no fouls were called in these situations. The Spurs have a reputation for their physical gameplay, leading many to suggest Wembanyama should have received foul calls. Nevertheless, San Antonio began Game 3 with strong momentum, securing an 11-point lead by the end of the first quarter, 33-22. However, the Knicks are known for their resilience, often overcoming deficits.
The Knicks caught up by halftime, leading by seven points after a strong second quarter. Brunson was instrumental in this recovery, contributing 15 points with 5-of-11 shooting from the field, alongside three assists and one rebound.
Victor Wembanyama also performed solidly, matching Brunson’s 15 points with an efficient 6-of-10 shooting. He added four rebounds and three assists to his stats.
The Spurs are working to avoid falling into a 3-0 deficit in the best-of-seven series. Meanwhile, the Knicks aim to capitalize on their momentum in the second half. They hope to secure a sweep in Game 4 on their home court. The outcome of this finals series remains closely watched, as both teams continue their battle for the championship.
