David and Annette Simpson recently uncovered why their dog barks during the night at their Southern California cabin. Surveillance footage revealed three coyotes outside their front door in the San Bernardino Mountains.
The footage showed the coyotes engaging in a 40-minute altercation around 1 a.m. on a Sunday. Although the couple was not present during the incident, their security cameras captured the entire event.
We wonder why our dog barks in the middle of the night, and now we know,Annette Simpson told KTLA.
The unexpected visitors explained their dog’s behavior. The Simpsons, familiar with local wildlife, had seen bears and squirrels, but the coyote brawl was new.
Despite the close encounter, Annette is not worried. I think it’s pretty cool. We really enjoy watching the wildlife and just so close,
she said. However, seeing the coyotes did prompt her to reconsider letting her cats out on the patio.
Annette’s interest in observing wildlife remains, though she prefers not to have her pets involved in such events.
