Dallas Mavericks Finalize Deal with Dusty May as Coach

2 days ago 0

The Dallas Mavericks are in the process of concluding an agreement with Dusty May, formerly of national champion Michigan, to transition him from college to the NBA. This information comes from a source familiar with the details who spoke on condition of anonymity due to the deal not yet being finalized.

Dusty May led the Michigan Wolverines to victory in the NCAA championship with a 69-63 win over UConn in April, finishing an impressive 34-3 season. Notably, Michigan made history in the NCAA Tournament by becoming the first team to score at least 90 points in five consecutive games.

Before his time at Michigan, the 49-year-old May achieved success with Florida Atlantic, guiding them to their only Final Four appearance and returning to the NCAA tournament in 2024. His achievements with these teams have marked him as a significant coaching talent.

May is set to replace Jason Kidd, who was dismissed two weeks after the Mavericks hired Masai Ujiri as the president of basketball operations and alternate governor. This change marks a new era for the Mavericks under Ujiri’s leadership.
