Fox News legal editor, Kerri Urbahn, analyzed a Wall Street Journal report cautioning corporate executives about potential investigations by Democrats. These investigations might target business leaders who donated to former President Donald Trump.
A progressive policy organization, led by former aides to President Joe Biden as well as Senators Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., and Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., has crafted a detailed plan for such congressional investigations. This plan could outline the objectives of the 120th Congress and focus on Trump and his allies outside the White House.
The Groundwork Collaborative’s dossier, obtained and reviewed by Fox News Digital, outlines Trump donors and corporate allies for possible investigation. CEOs in big tech and other large corporations are among the predicted targets.
A long-standing Democratic Senate staffer told Fox News Digital about plans to focus on Trump’s allies and donors once Democrats hold the majority. Reports suggest the dossier targets contributors to locations such as the new White House ballroom.
The document also proposes investigations into Trump-aligned corporations, including Tesla, Apple, Amazon, Oracle, and Trump Media. It names executives like Palantir’s Alex Karp and Coinbase’s Brian Armstrong.
Apart from corporate targets, the document highlights Trump’s personal finances, suggesting congressional scrutiny over Trump’s tax strategies, cryptocurrency dealings, and any preferential treatment given to corporate donors.
Additionally, it urges committees to enhance federal oversight of artificial intelligence. Proposed investigations could target AI companies and suggest restrictions on algorithmic pricing, workplace surveillance, and select autonomous technologies. This includes the Trump administration’s Medicare AI initiative, which uses the WISeR model for screening procedures.
Further scrutiny of private businesses is recommended through hearings, document requests, and potential legislative actions focusing on major employers, landlords, insurers, and tech firms.
Bharat Ramamurti, previously a Deputy Director of the National Economic Council and a collaborator on the dossier, told Fox News Digital that the oversight agenda aims to understand corporate decisions and propose congressional actions.
The document also touches on corporate ownership and pricing, including institutional housing investors and algorithmic rent-setting practices.
Proposals further include investigating a settlement relating to Trump’s tax audits, specifically the audit of the Chicago tower, and engaging with Treasury officials for more details.
