Over 1,000 Fraud Enforcement Actions Initiated by DOJ

The Department of Justice has initiated more than 1,000 fraud enforcement actions across the United States. This effort follows the creation of the National Fraud Enforcement Division, working to safeguard taxpayer money against schemes targeting programs such as Medicaid, SNAP, HUD, Social Security, and SBA. These programs are essential in assisting vulnerable groups, including the elderly, sick, and homeless.

DHS Nationwide Operation Targeting Illegal Immigrant SNAP Fraud

The Department of Homeland Security has launched a nationwide operation focusing on illegal immigrants accused of fraudulently accessing SNAP benefits, leading to several arrests. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents confirmed these actions and highlighted arrests involving illegal aliens using SNAP benefits.

Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin emphasized that these welfare programs should benefit Americans exclusively. He pointed out the significant impact of non-violent illegal immigrant crime on American taxpayers.

Arrests and Implications

The Department of Homeland Security has identified and arrested several illegal immigrants for SNAP fraud, including multiple Haitian nationals. One notable arrest involved Rubstony Junior Theodore, a Haitian national with a criminal record that includes larceny and trespassing. Other arrested Haitian nationals are Wilbert Jean Baptiste, Louis Jean, and Jhensly Charles.

Elizabeth Povea Rodriguez, a Cuban national also living illegally in the United States, faced arrest during this operation. Her history includes charges related to disorderly conduct, battery, and domestic violence.

Further Actions and Legal Implications

DHS emphasized that these arrests are part of a larger, sustained ICE operation targeting illegal aliens fraudulently accessing SNAP benefits. DHS plans to continue pursuing individuals defrauding the American taxpayer by exploiting federal benefits.

Federal law generally prohibits immigrants residing illegally in the U.S. from receiving SNAP benefits. However, certain lawful noncitizens may qualify for the program.
