6 days ago 0

Authorities are investigating a deputy-involved shooting in Chino Hills following a fatal incident involving a kidnapping suspect during a traffic stop. The incident occurred on Wednesday night when deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department responded to reports of gunfire and cries for help.

Upon stopping the suspect’s vehicle, deputies were unaware that they were dealing with a kidnapping scenario. During the stop, the kidnapping suspect shot a victim who was hidden in the trunk of the car. The driver and the victim both died at the scene.

Deputies were called to the 2000 block of Monteverde Drive around 10:15 p.m. after reports of gunshots and someone calling for assistance, officials stated.

As the deputies made contact with the vehicle, they instructed the occupants to exit. While the passenger complied, the driver approached the trunk and shot the victim once more inside it. In response, deputies fired at the driver.

Public Information Officer Gloria Orejel confirmed that the victim had been previously shot and placed in the trunk before the traffic stop. The nature of the relationship between the suspects and the victim remains unclear, and details about the victim have not yet been released.

The investigation continues as officials seek to understand the motives and connections involved in this case.
