Disneyland’s Tomorrowland Overhaul Sparks Fan Interest in PeopleMover

43 minutes ago 0

Disneyland has announced a major renovation of Tomorrowland, reigniting fan interest in the return of the PeopleMover, a beloved attraction closed over 30 years ago. Thomas Mazloum, Chairman of Disney Experiences, shared the news during the D23 fan convention on August 15. Though specifics about the redesign were limited, Mazloum emphasized the project aligns with Disneyland’s 75th anniversary in 2030.

As we approach Disneyland’s 75th anniversary, with an eye toward the horizon and the park’s centennial, I think it’s time to renew that promise once again in a way that deeply honors the original and imagines the future with optimism, said Mazloum.

Following the announcement, fans speculated if the PeopleMover could make a comeback. The PeopleMover was an elevated ride that allowed guests to view Tomorrowland from above. It debuted in 1967 and ceased operation in 1995, transporting over 50 million visitors during its tenure, according to Disney’s fan organization D23.

Discussions on a Reddit forum dedicated to Disneyland demonstrated strong support for the PeopleMover’s return. One commenter stated, Just add the PeopleMover and people will be happy. Another voiced a simple appeal, PeopleMover, please!

However, not all fans were optimistic. Some questioned the feasibility of the PeopleMover returning, citing the ambiguous details of the renovations. One user wrote, It is so light on details it could mean anything. I wouldn’t get my hopes up about it — this could easily be 5-10 years out. Another pointed out the need for constructing a new track as the existing one is unfit for use.

Disneyland has been in the news for various developments recently. In the spring, the park enforced new restrictions on loose items and handheld filming on certain rides. In July, Disneyland celebrated welcoming its one billionth guest, a significant milestone highlighted by Jill Estorino, Disneyland Resort’s president. Late July saw temporary disruptions at the park due to a citywide water pressure outage in Anaheim.
