Dylan Stewart, a promising edge rusher from South Carolina Gamecocks, has been a focal point in recent 2027 NFL mock drafts, often predicted as a top-10 pick. An incident on Saturday has clouded his prospects.
During South Carolina’s significant defeat, losing 49-14 to Alabama Crimson Tide, Stewart was ejected after punching Josh Ford’s helmet. Following a heated dispute with coaches, Stewart faced an indefinite suspension announced by head coach Shane Beamer.
“I’ll determine his future beyond this week soon. We are still discussing with him, but he won’t play against Kentucky. We have a program standard and his actions didn’t meet it,” Beamer stated, per 247 Sports.
Beamer emphasized accountability, noting Stewart’s behavior was unacceptable. He mentioned Stewart won’t be the last player to show aggression, but accountability to the program’s standards is crucial.
Stewart gained attention in his freshman year with 6.5 sacks and 23 total tackles in 2024. He maintained performance with 4.5 sacks and 33 tackles in 2025, earning him a second-team All-SEC title and recognition from college football expert Phil Steele.
His future remains uncertain as meetings continue. South Carolina sits at a 2-2 record, and their next challenge is against Kentucky.
