European Union countries have imported more liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Russia in the first half of the year than ever before. This increase highlights the bloc’s ongoing struggle to reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
From January to June this year, E.U. states purchased 9.89 million tons of LNG from Russia’s Yamal LNG. This marks an 18 percent rise compared to the same period last year.
The European Union has long aimed to decrease dependency on fossil energies. However, their energy policies have resulted in a significant dependency on Russian natural gas.
