Ed Sheeran Faces Scrutiny for Dropping Macklemore Over Pro-Palestine Remarks

21 hours ago 0

Ed Sheeran removed rapper Macklemore from his tour lineup following Macklemore’s pro-Palestine statements, drawing significant criticism. Grammy-winning producer Jack Antonoff expressed disappointment with Sheeran’s decision, criticizing him for not resisting pressure from influential figures and organizations.

In a candid interview with The Guardian, Antonoff, known for his work with Taylor Swift, argued that Sheeran missed a vital chance to stand firm against billionaire interests. This backlash arose after Sheeran faced criticism for excluding Macklemore from the Loop Tour following the rapper’s calls for “Free Palestine” during his performance.

“If you think it is controversial, you’re lost in some other sauce. They’re going to let some promoter tell me what I can say? Don’t book me. I’ll play for free outside,” Antonoff remarked.

Robert Kraft, owner of the New England Patriots, reportedly threatened to ban Sheeran’s stadium acts if Macklemore remained involved. Antonoff suggested that Sheeran should have canceled the entire tour and performed free concerts outside the intended venues to resist billionaire pressure.

Sheeran addressed the controversy during his Philadelphia tour stop. He stated, “What happened in Israel and at the Nova Music Festival on Oct. 7 was horrific and compounded centuries of Jewish pain. What is happening in Gaza is catastrophic, unjustifiable, and disproportionate.” Several artists, including Finneas, Aaron Rowe, and Lukas Graham, exited the tour in solidarity with Macklemore.

Macklemore responded with a “Free Palestine Tour,” maintaining his stance. Antonoff commended Macklemore for his outspokenness. He noted that endorsing a “free Palestine” is a prevalent sentiment and not a controversial stance.

“It’s not a strange or uncomfortable thing to say; it’s a deeply human thing to say,” Antonoff asserted, voicing his support for Macklemore.

Film critic Christian Toto critiqued Antonoff’s remarks, suggesting Antonoff’s intentions were to gain favor in the industry. Toto highlighted potential consequences of canceling a tour, such as job losses and logistical challenges in organizing alternative concerts.

Fox News Digital reached out to Ed Sheeran and Macklemore for comments but did not receive an immediate response.
