Ramsey collaborated with U.S. authorities to secure Robert Gilman’s release after 1,666 days in a Russian prison. He commended former President Donald Trump for his efforts to bring Gilman home on humanitarian grounds. Ramsey noted that Trump’s administration, including special envoy Steve Witkoff and Secretary Rubio, effectively applied pressure on Russia for Gilman’s release.
Conditions in Russian Detention
Robert Gilman was unlawfully targeted in Russia due to an unexpected diversion during his travel to a teaching job in Moldova. While recuperating from illness, Russian authorities arrested him, mistaking his condition for inebriation and further accusing him of assaulting police officers.
In prison, Gilman suffered severe mistreatment including beatings and psychological torment. Ramsey shared that Gilman was tortured with false information about threats to his family to add to his distress.
Psychological Warfare
Ramsey dismissed claims about a Boston-based threat team as psychological manipulation aimed at breaking Gilman. Introducing Gilman to immediate medical care was prioritized once he returned to U.S. soil, thanks to the State Department’s designation of Gilman as a wrongful detainee.
The Cases of Other Detained Americans
Global Reach represents five other Americans held in Russia. Ramsey claims they meet the criteria for wrongful detention as defined by the Robert Levinson Hostage-Taking and Accountability Act.

Olga Jezler, a green card holder, was detained while visiting Russia with legal CBD oil, only to face drug trafficking charges, putting her health at risk.
Andre Khachatoorian was detained while en route to Armenia, facing worsening health conditions due to an autoimmune disorder.
Chuck Zimmerman, originally from Virginia, was seized while sailing in international waters. He faces accusations of arms trafficking due to a firearm onboard his vessel.
