Joan Collins, notable for her role in “Dynasty,” continues to engage audiences at 93 with her latest project, “My Duchess.” In a conversation with The Independent at Variety’s Women of Power event, Collins discussed how she maintains her vitality and zest for life.
“I love life,” Collins stated. “Every day, I aim to breathe fresh air, ensure proper rest, hydrate well, and focus on self-care.”
Dennis Quaid expresses joy in his relationship with his younger wife.
Collins also finds comfort in revisiting classic films, revealing that old Bette Davis movies or films from the ‘80s and ‘90s starring Jack Nicholson and Sarah Jessica Parker help boost her confidence.
In a previous interview with The Telegraph, she emphasized physical fitness as essential. “I exercise with my trainer a few times weekly using basic Pilates exercises,” she explained, highlighting her preference for traditional Pilates moves over machines.
Despite exercising, she admits that lengthy walks aren’t her pastime. “It bores me,” she confessed. “I prefer to walk around my home, adjusting things as I go.”

Her longevity may also be due to genetics. “My father lived to 87, quite remarkable for someone born in 1903,” she said. Collins appreciates her mother’s care in providing supplements when they were uncommon.
Collins’ personal life plays a role as well. Her marriage to Percy Gibson, 32 years her junior since 2002, has contributed to her happiness. “We were friends first,” she said in 2023. “We worked on a play together and shared similar interests.”
Collins reflected on past relationships, noting, “Some partners were neurotic or unbalanced,” but she describes Gibson as “kind and grounded.” She believes age gaps are “just a number” and affirms it’s “never too late” to find love. Her memoir, “Behind the Shoulder Pads,” discusses this perspective.
Collins possesses a “tremendous enthusiasm for life.” Her mother remarked on her constant activity as a child. Collins embraces life as a gift, urging others not to waste it.
Her memoir captures these sentiments, portraying how her energy often outpaces Gibson’s. “Percy admits I can wear him out,” she noted warmly.
