Elderly Woman Fatally Shot in Auburn Gresham After Argument

A shooting occurred on the city’s South Side, resulting in the death of a 70-year-old woman. The incident took place Wednesday afternoon in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood, specifically in the 1900 block of West 83rd Street.

According to Chicago police, the woman was inside a residence with a 63-year-old man when a verbal altercation began around 3:20 p.m. The situation escalated, leading the man to draw a gun and shoot the woman.

The woman was struck in the neck and chest and was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released her identity. An autopsy was planned for Thursday.

Police recovered a firearm at the location. They arrested the man, and charges were pending as of Wednesday night. Investigators suspect the shooting was related to domestic issues.

Calumet Area detectives are handling the investigation.
