Elon Musk, known for his leadership at Tesla and SpaceX, has made significant financial contributions to Republican super PACs and organizations. Over the last three months, Musk donated $276 million, significantly supporting GOP efforts as they approach the midterm elections. This recent contribution increases his total political spending to $366 million.
A representative from Musk’s America PAC confirmed these figures, initially reported by The New York Times. Between July and September, Musk allocated $158 million to the Senate Leadership Fund, which backs Republican Senate candidates, and $20 million to the Congressional Leadership Fund, supporting GOP House candidates.
This financial move indicates Musk’s continued interest in political engagement, despite his earlier statements hinting at reduced political spending for these midterms. Musk launched his America PAC during the 2024 election, gaining over $76 million in contributions. His funds have also supported various Republican organizations and candidates, including $10 million to the Lone Star Liberty PAC for Texas Republican Senate candidate Ken Paxton, $10 million to the Republican Governors Association, and $2 million to the Republican Attorneys General Association.
Musk’s political journey began during the 2024 elections, where he invested heavily in Donald Trump’s presidential campaign. He actively participated, joining Trump on campaign trails and leading cost-reduction initiatives known as the Department of Government Efficiency. However, these efforts faced criticism due to extensive job and funding cuts in the federal government.
After leaving the White House in May 2025, following a public dispute with Trump, Musk distanced himself from politics yet again. In a statement, he admitted to being “carried away” and overly involved in politics, suggesting he would diminish his political spending.
