Family of Times Square Stabber Speaks on Her Mental Health Struggles

Pamela Cisneros, known for having a long-standing mental health history including postpartum depression and several hospital stays, tragically attacked two strangers in Times Square, resulting in one death. Cisneros was later shot by NYPD officers. Her brother, Patrick Peralta, expressed his disbelief, stating he never knew her to harm anyone else before this incident.

Cisneros once wrote on Facebook about stabbing people, referencing events she believed signified “the end times.” Her post detailed concerns like war, drug use, and global persecution, dated November 30, 2025. Peralta recalled his sister as a happy child, but noted her mental health issues began after the birth of her second child, two decades ago.

Mental health, specifically postpartum challenges, has received attention due to the trial of Lindsey Clancy, who is accused of murdering her children. Clancy’s defense relates to postpartum psychosis, a condition Pamela potentially experienced. Cisneros’ middle child, who is autistic, lives in a Brooklyn group home, while her other children reside in Florida with their father.

Cisneros had no criminal record in New York. Yet, she had multiple hospitalizations and once attempted suicide by jumping onto subway tracks, being rescued by a bystander. Known incidents involved the NYPD for her mental health crises. Peralta explained her struggle with regular psychiatric medication led to a prescription for monthly injections, which she reportedly managed on her own later on. He speculated her recent behavior might stem from missing these treatments.

On the day of the attack, Cisneros pulled kitchen knives from a bag and stabbed a 68-year-old man, who survived. Shortly after, she fatally stabbed 32-year-old Erin Piacenti. NYPD officers subsequently shot Cisneros when she threatened them with knives.

Peralta described his shock upon recognizing his sister in news videos of the incident. He last saw her during a family birthday celebration where she seemed her usual self. However, she recently missed family dinners and had not been in touch, prompting concern. Cisneros had recently obtained employment as an administrative assistant. Her family, including her devastated mother, expressed deep sorrow for the victims of the incident.
