A tragic incident unfolded near Seldovia, Alaska, as a small aircraft crash resulted in the deaths of four individuals. State authorities reported the event occurred on Wednesday when the Piper PA-24 plane, en route from Anchorage, crashed.

The aircraft was nearing Seldovia airport when it descended into Seldovia Slough, close to the coastline. The plane ended up submerged in approximately 15 feet of water, causing Alaska State Troopers and other emergency responders to delay their approach to the wreck until the tide lowered.

Once the tide allowed access, all four people onboard were retrieved from the sunken aircraft. They were pronounced dead, though officials have yet to release their identities, awaiting the notification of family members.

The reason for the crash is still under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). This incident marks the second fatal aviation accident in Alaska within the last week.

This story is developing, and updates will be provided as more details emerge.
