Former HGTV Host Nicole Curtis Faces Legal Battle Over Detroit Property

Nicole Curtis, renowned for her role as the host of HGTV’s “Rehab Addict,” is facing legal troubles involving the City of Detroit. Curtis and her company, Detroit Renovations LLC, are being sued for allegedly neglecting a property in Detroit. The city claims the house continues to pose a nuisance despite multiple code violations and a court order demanding renovation.

Curtis gained control of the property in 2021 after a legal dispute with the Detroit Land Bank Authority. The home, a 1921 American foursquare-style structure, was deemed hazardous by Wayne County Circuit Judge Timothy Kenny, who ordered refurbishment. Despite this, the city accuses Curtis of failing to address issues such as damaged exterior features, a faulty roof, and missing gutters.

Efforts to contact Nicole Curtis for comment have been unsuccessful. Her expertise in preserving homes from the 19th and early 20th century, particularly in Detroit and Minneapolis, is well-known. However, her journey with HGTV has ended following revelations involving a racial slur captured on film.

Curtis was terminated by HGTV after a video surfaced, showing her using a racial slur during filming. This incident led HGTV to cancel “Rehab Addict” and remove it from their platforms, citing a misalignment with the network’s values. Curtis expressed remorse for the remark and discussed the event further on “The Breakfast Club,” a popular show.

During her appearance, Curtis, challenged by hosts Charlamagne tha God and DJ Envy, acknowledged using unique terms such as “fart digger” and “fart knocker.” She explained these are playful expressions and expressed an intent to have open conversations about the incident.
