A former television news anchor from Missouri has confessed to killing her mother. Angelynn ‘Angie’ Mock, 48, admitted to fatally stabbing her 80-year-old mother, Anita Avers, believing she was the devil. This tragic event occurred on Halloween last year. Authorities provided this information last week.

Mock pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree murder. The Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office revealed this news on Friday. Under the plea agreement, Mock faces a life sentence. She will have eligibility for parole after serving 25 years.

Police were called to the residence shared by Mock, her mother, and her stepfather in Wichita, Kansas. Officers discovered Mock outside with cuts on her hands. Avers, found with multiple stab wounds, was taken to the hospital but later died.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Mock declared she believed her mother was the devil. She allegedly claimed she killed her mother to ‘save herself.’ Her stepfather mentioned to KAKE-TV that Mock had been diagnosed with mental illness, experiencing delusions and depression.

Mock previously worked as a news anchor and reporter. Her LinkedIn profile indicates she served at Fox 2 in St. Louis between 2011 and 2015. Before this, she was a morning anchor at KOKH-TV in Oklahoma City from 2007 to 2011. Mock had other reporting roles in Minnesota, Montana, and Nebraska.

She is scheduled for sentencing on October 5.
