House Speaker Mike Johnson emphasized the need for students to view America with the right perspective at an event by Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF). He expressed concern over students not fully appreciating the nation’s foundational values.

During the ADF summit in San Diego, Johnson praised ADF’s efforts in defending America’s core principles. The summit marked the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, highlighting the importance of understanding and reclaiming the spirit of 1776.

Kristen Waggoner, president of ADF, spoke highly of Johnson’s contributions and his commitment to principle in his role in Washington. His dedication was evident as he spoke about America’s spiritual heritage during his keynote speech.

Johnson, concluding the summit, shared his experiences of engaging with university students to instill basic historical knowledge. He recounted moments when few students acknowledged America as a great nation, indicating a lack of appreciation and understanding.

He pointed out the pervasive indoctrination in educational institutions, emphasizing that the nation’s 250th birthday presented a unique teaching opportunity. Johnson urged for a simplistic explanation of America’s greatness to counteract misinformation.

Polling by Fox News Digital revealed declining trust in higher education, citing political indoctrination as a key concern. Gallup’s latest data showed only 38% of U.S. adults have strong confidence in higher education, a decrease from previous years.

Additional studies from America First Policy Institute highlighted the significant political imbalance among university faculties, with liberal faculty members outnumbering conservatives by a large margin.
